About my logo: doorway to possibility

Last summer, I visited the island of Naxos, Greece, the homeland of my paternal grandfather, for the first time. He left the island at the age of 18, in search of opportunities and a better life. To find out what else was possible.

At the edge of its harbour stands the Portara, originally intended to be the entrance to a gigantic temple to Apollo or to Dionysus, depending on whose story you believe. In the end, the temple was never built -- wars, insufficient skilled labour, supply chain shortages maybe -- but the doorway still stands some 2500+ years later, framing the setting sun whether or nor anyone is there to capture the scene.

The excitement around the Portara in the middle of August is palpable: the day's heat emanating from the stone, bronzed bodies thronging to the edge of shore, feet dusted with sand from the beach and laughter carried on the wind as people delight in the waning days of summer. And then, as the sun hangs low on the horizon, a silent calm settles on the awestruck crowd, as though witnessing the setting for the first time. It is a moment of peace, a moment of possibility.

To me, the Portara represents the very best of balanced leadership: simplicity in design, openness to all ideas and people, readiness to convene and to explore what is possible.

Long before Field of Dreams, the Portara promised: "If you build it, they will come."

This is my hope for IOANNA SAHAS MARTIN Coaching & Communications, and why the Portara features in my logo. Thank you for your interest and support, and for being part of a community promoting balanced leadership. It IS possible.
